Anvik

Everyone loves Anvik! They serve a seven course dinner to the first musher here, as well as a cash award. I love it because it's right on the Yukon River - what a beautiful sight! The woods, lakes and woodlands are so peaceful here.

We’re resting and the dogs are eating. The race gives us 2,500 pounds of food for the entire race for my team. Since there’s 25 checkpoints after Anchorage, about how many pounds do you figure I should use for the dogs at each stop? Now that I’m down to ten dogs on the team, how many pounds of food does that allow me for each dog when they eat?

I’d appreciate any help you can give me on this – I can’t use a calculator with my gloves on! We’re off to Grayling. Have your hands warmed up from the blubber mittens yet?

Yayyy Jeff King!! We're cheering you on and it's getting so very exciting! We haven't made the blubber mitts yet, but we'll get there soon. As for the dogs' food, the dogs should each receive 10lbs.

Good luck!!

Hey Ray,

You need to give each dog about 10 pounds of food at each checkpoint. Keep up the good pace. See you in Grayling.

Hello Gerald,

You and your dogs are doing so great. We are cheering you on all the way. You are in our prayers.
Since you have 9 dogs, each dog can have a little more than 10 pounds of food at this stop. You could also save a little for a snack later.

Hi Mr. Cotter, You and your dogs might want to get a good meal in Anvik. It's a long ways before another town.

We calculate that you will have 100 pounds of dog food left for the rest of the checkpoints. So with 10 dogs, that would make 10 pounds per dog per checkpoint.

Hope that helps!

Hey Martin...

It looks like you should have 100 lbs of dog food per checkpoint. With 10 dogs left, they should each receive 10lbs per stop. That seems like a lot of food for them - but we know they are working really hard and need those calories so they can stay strong!!!

Keep going!

We divided 2500 lbs of food by 25 checkpoints. This gives you 100 lbs of food for each checkpoint. For 10 dogs, you have 10 lbs of food for each remaining check point.

Good luck & go Paul!
